On November 3, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, visits the Republic of Turkey to participate in the 36th Plenary Session of the General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.

 

During the Plenary Session, Ukraine will take over chairmanship in the PABSEC from Turkey. The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will speak on the chairmanship of Ukraine in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, and on the topic "The Role of Parliaments in the Inter-Cultural and Inter-Civilization Dialogue as a Foundation of the Regional and International Dialogue."   

 

V.Lytvyn will meet Mehmet Ali Şahin, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

 

For reference: The Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) was established in Istanbul on 25 June 1992. On 26 February 1993, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC), a parliamentary dimension of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), was established, including the parliament members of twelve BSEC member states: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Russian Federation, Serbia, Turkey, and Ukraine. The People´s Assembly of Egypt, the National Assembly of France, the German Bundestag, the Knesset of the State of Israel, the National Council of the Slovak Republic and the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus have an observer status.

 

The President of the Assembly is the speaker of the parliament of a member country by rotation for a period of six months and acts as the highest representative of the Assembly.

 

The office of the PABSEC President was held by the Chairmen of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine O.Moroz (June-December 1994), O.Tkachenko (June-December 1999), V.Lytvyn (November 2004-June 2005).

 

Members of the Standing Delegation of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in PABSEC have attended 35 sessions of the Assembly, 110 committee sessions, numerous conferences and seminars. They have also monitored the elections in the BSEC member states.
