To the Organizers, Participants and Guests of

the All-Ukrainian Conference of Lawyers

I send my sincere greetings to the attendants of the conference dedicated to the occupational holiday the Lawyer´s Day.

Celebration of this holiday places emphasis on the concepts of Legitimacy and Law, confirms the inviolability of democratic values, human and civil rights and freedoms. This holiday distinguishes a special social status of people, whose occupation was among the most demanded in the Ukrainian State in the period of its development. Today, despite any fluctuations in the demand of different specialists, the demand in competent lawyers remains invariably high in the public, social and economic sectors.

The lawyers´ activity has to be devoid of any ideological preconditions, being performed in accordance with the timeless and unchangeable generally acknowledged principles of law, one of the most fundamental ones being jus est boni acgui (law is the art of kindness and justice).

It is worth reminding that the European Court of Human Rights is guided by the principle of justice in the scrutiny and pronouncement of its judgments. Moreover, Ukraine, as well as entire Europe, will soon celebrate the 60th anniversary of signing the European Convention on Human Rights that laid foundation for the efficient tool for implementing international law the European Court of Human Rights. Supremacy of law is the fundamental principle of work of this Court. Any political implications or passing private interests are rejected.

Addressing The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the occasion of the beginning of the current session, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych stated: "I would rather reason prevail over emotions and political passions in this session hall", which fully complies with the above-mentioned statement.

I am convinced that the lawyers will realize all public and state hopes and expectations by their pragmatic acts for consolidation of legitimacy, law order and justice.

I wish you all the best, professional growth and firmness in your service to the Truth and the Law.
