Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stresses that Universities have a Special Role in the Consolidation of the Nation and Public
On October 15, V.Lytvyn delivered a speech at the grand ceremony dedicated to the 205th anniversary of Nizhyn M.V.Hohol State University. He stated that universities had always set the goals of the civilization progress, and consolidated the public. He believes that "social orientation of the universities consolidates the nation and the society."
The Head of the Parliament singled out an equally important mission of the universities "the mission of general historical education."
"Social orientation means a systemic approach to the effective consolidation of Ukrainianhood, development of a new philosophy of the Ukrainian State," V.Lytvyn explained. "Universities play a key role as the traditional centers of historical memory, culture and spirituality."
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine mentioned another significant mission of the universities "support of historical memory as the key factor of civilization progress." He stated that a modern state of intellectual and creative individuals could not be built without historical memory.
"A comprehensive history of the Ukrainian nation is still to be written. This is the mission of the university scholars," V.Lytvyn summed up.
