On Friday, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, attended the grand meeting dedicated to the 205th anniversary of Nizhyn M.Hohol State University.

V. Lytvyn declared that "the twelve columns of Nizhyn University are the twelve apostles of the national education system." According to him, this educational institution deserves the status of a national education establishment. "It would reflect the historical truth and justice. Moreover, its existence and activity proved that division of Universities into the capital and provincial once is false. I am strongly convinced that the University either exists or does not exist", the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine explained.

V. Lytvyn underscored the uniqueness of Nizhyn University, as "there is a lack of universities with rich history in Ukraine." He named it "not only the center of intellect but also the center of consciousness."

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine focused on the fact that Ukrainian system of education did not meet the international challenges. "Our education is not technical or applied. Knowledge is not put into practice, and the graduates often have no idea how to do that", V.Lytvyn admitted.

The Head of the Parliament stated that the attempts to harmonize world innovations in the modern education "result only in the changes of form, not content." "Education should be set as a state goal. I am convinced that the future of Ukraine is in the developed education, democracy, supremacy of Law and sustainable civil society", V. Lytvyn emphasised.

The Head of the Parliament conferred the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Certificates to the University lecturers.
