Mykola Tomenko: Kyiv Teacher's House should become a Center of Youth Education and Upbringing

 

"It has become a tradition that the authorities neglect anniversaries and birthdays of the prominent Ukrainians that used to form the Ukrainian statehood", Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine declared. "It may not harmonize with the general line of the current social and educational policy", he added, reminding that September 29, 1866 is the birthday of one of the most prominent Ukrainian scientists and public figures, Head of the Ukrainian State in 1917-1918, Mykhailo Hrushevskii.

M. Tomenko reminded that according to the national Ukrainian public opinion poll held by

Ukrainske Demokratychne Kolo agency to order of the Institute of Politics, Mykhailo Hrushevskii was recognized as one of the most popular national political figures, whose personality and activity is positively evaluated in all the regions of Ukraine.

 

However, the Deputy Chairman admitted that if the Ukrainian history, culture and traditions are neglected by the state authorities, then the public should take the functions of enlighteners. "If the birthday of the prominent scientists and the Head of the State is not interesting for the authority, the public should compensate for this lack of attention by systemic elucidative work", he explained.

 

Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, focused on the personality of Mykhailo Hrushevskii and stated that "the period of the Ukrainian State 1917-1920 demands great attention and study." He also emphasised that Kyiv Teacher's House should become a center of youth education and upbringing, taking into consideration the special significance of the Tsentralna Rada and Ukrainian People´s Republic leaders for the development of the national consciousness.

 

"As the famous quote of Mykhailo Hrushevskii: "The biggest problem of Ukraine is that it is guided by those who do not need it" remains topical today, the mission of the Ukrainian intellectual elite is to assume the elucidative work in the country", the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine declared.
