of Nizhyn M. Hohol State University
I sincerely congratulate the faculty, students, post-graduates and all the personnel of the University on the remarkable date in the life of this institution, history of Ukrainian education, culture and spirituality the 205th Anniversary of Nizhyn High School.
Nizhyn M. Hohol State University is a historic successor of the Gymnasium of Supreme Science founded in 1805 by Bezborodko brothers, which is one of the oldest and most authoritative educational institutions in Ukraine. It is well known far beyond the borders of our state due to its prominent biography, research-educational achievements and traditions.
For the period of the institution existence, more than 50 thousand specialists got a degree there. Among its students, there were a lot of prominent men of national education, science and culture: M. Hohol, E. Hrebinka, V. Zabila, L. Hlibov, M. Hrebel, O. Afanasiev-Chuzhbynskii, Yu. Zbanatskii, O. Yushchenko, E. Hutsalo; painters: A. Mokrytskii, A. Horonovych, S. Samokysh; academicians: E. Karskii, M. Derzhavin, V. Danylov, V. Rezanov, I, Kyrychenko, M. Petrovskii, P. Zabolotskii and others.
Mykola Hohol and other prominent graduates of the Gymnasium - scientists, literary critics, political and scientific figures - made Nizhyn and Nizhyn University famous, becoming real symbols of enlightenment, knowledge and hard work.
National recognition and authority of Nizhyn University received a new impetus during the years of independence. Today, we can rightfully declare that the University named after M. Hohol would follow its main path of development, enrich its success, bring up specialists and citizens of Ukraine to glorify their Motherland.
I sincerely wish you creative inspiration, confidence in your wisdom, health, happiness, success and new achievements for the flourishing of our Ukraine.
