To the Journalists, Authors and Readers of
Holos Ukrainy Newspaper
I send my sincere greetings on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the newspaper foundation. Its birthday was October 16, 1990, the date, when a respective Resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukrainian SSR was adopted.
Holos Ukrainy is the first newspaper in the history of Ukraine founded without consent of the supreme authorities. It is a forerunner of new era in the destiny of one of the most powerful states of the USSR. The newspaper became a coeval of its independence and a mirror of the processes, events and facts of state formation.
Modern Holos Ukrainy newspaper is our common achievement. It is a mirror of Ukrainian parliamentarism that shares a complicated path of development with a young state. Representing politically dissonant Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the newspaper is of a neutral character, as its writing and editorial staff observes the freedom of speech as a leading principle of journalism in the democratic world.
The greatest and the most objective criterion for evaluating any newspaper is its popularity. Holos Ukrainy is widely-read not only in Ukraine, but all over the world. It is reasonable to hope that the number of readers and well-wishers will increase each year.
I wish you, dear friends, new achievements on the way of further improvement of the newspaper, its role in the society and establishment of a new democratic and flourishing state!
