Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, believes that Establishment of the State of Ukraine is the Key Achievement of our Country for the Past Nineteen Years

Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, believes that establishment of the State of Ukraine is the key achievement of our country for the past nineteen years. He made this statement in the interview to "Pro Holovne" TV program at the First National Channel.

"It is a substantial achievement", the Head of the Ukrainian Parliament stated. "As to the negative aspects, Ukraine failed to create the conditions of life for every person to feel secure and comfortable." However, V.Lytvyn believes that it is reasonable, as "when the house is being built, some inconveniences are inevitable." "The understanding that one lives in one´s own state and house" is more important. "Yes, the house is rather unpretentious and disorderly in comparison with the houses of neighbours, but they had more time and worked upon it as a single family, without conflicts as to who is inferior or superior, who will give instructions or fulfill them", the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine admitted.

He believes that nineteen years is the period, when Ukraine searched for its place in the world. "Unfortunately, we lag behind the rapid development of the world and European community", V.Lytvyn stated. It is even worse, because "we do not appreciate independence, wasting efforts for balancing political accounts and fighting for economic interests, which sets Ukrainian prospects aside."

Nevertheless, comparing the stage of Ukraine´s establishment and consolidation and similar stages passed by other countries, the only conclusion can be made we have reached great achievements. "Thus, judging by historical standards, consolidation of independence in Ukraine is normal", Volodymyr Lytvyn summed up. "However, everyone wants to have a good life immediately, so we have to unite and work hard."

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine drew attention to another negative notion the habit of developing the country under the conditions of total criticism. "Everyone criticizes everyone. The authorities also waste their efforts for criticizing their predecessors", V.Lytvyn stated. It used to have public support during the election campaigns, but people have already grown tired of overwhelming criticism.

"People who were in authority yesterday or the day before yesterday are especially good at describing how terrible the situation is. However, they should admit that it is the result of their work. Still, they promise that only their absolute power in the country will allow them to implement the vision of remarkable future of the country. I would like to declare that these or other politicians will not be able to enjoy absolute authority. The agreement to this fact calls for another one: we should work hard for the sake of Ukraine´s breakthrough. Unfortunately, Ukraine is suffering from ceaseless mutual conflicts", V.Lytvyn stressed.
