Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, commented on the public opinion poll regarding development of physical culture and sports conducted by Ukrainske Demokratychne Kolo agency to order of the Institute of Politics. He declared that the society adequately responded to the fact that the healthcare, physical culture and grassroots sport systems in Ukraine were in decline now.

The Deputy Chairman reminded that 78,7% of the citizens in all the regions believed that the government shall take care of the development of the physical culture and public sports, construction of new sports grounds, stadiums and swimming pools. Whereas only 15,2% of the respondents suppose that the government shall first take care of big sports, and construction of the Olympic facilities for the winter Olympic Games 2022.

According to M. Tomenko, experts estimated that even the sport infrastructure of Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, gives access to sport activity only to 5% of the Kyiv residents.

"People believe that the government shall invest into children healthcare instead of the construction of expensive facilities", M. Tomenko stressed.
