On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of independence, the Fund of Mykola Tomenko and Henesa Publishing House prepared "Ukrainskii Shchodennyk" (a business weekly for Ukrainians).
Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine M.Tomenko, initiator of the publication, explained that "the main idea of the project is that every day of the anniversary year should start not only with the mention of the state, national or religious holiday, but also with some information about the birthdays of prominent Ukrainians. Each day can become the ‘day´ of Taras Shevchenko and Lesia Ukrainka, Bohdan Khmelnytskii and Yaroslav Mudryi." He also emphasised that the author was responsible for the choice, however, it was based on the selection of people who were born in Ukraine, devoted their lives to Ukraine, were brought up in this country or helped their Motherland, even living beyond its borders.
According to the initiator, the owners of this business weekly will discover new figures of intellectuals, state and public figures who had been working in the interests of their nation. People will learn about the authors of the most popular Ukrainian aphorisms and songs, read how Vladimir Maiakovskii advocated learning the Ukrainian language, and Anton Chekhov reading Taras Shevchenko´s Kobzar, read the poems by Ivan Franko in the translation of Anna Akhmatova and other interesting facts.
In this business weekly, each day starts with a birthday of a prominent Ukrainian, a note about a state, national, occupational or religious holiday, remarkable historical events, etc. Furthermore, it will contain a lot of useful statistical data, and offer one aphorism daily. A Ukrainian Weekly 2011 will enter the market in October 2010.
