Mykola Tomenko: In Due Time, Cherkasy Region has lived through both Polish and German Authorities, so it will survive Donetsk Power as well
"Ukrainian politics lacks responsibility", Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stated at the meeting with journalists of Cherkasy region. "It lacks responsibility for election pledges to the citizens and Ukraine", he explained.
Mykola Tomenko stressed that "it is normal when during the elections and the first months of office, the state leaders guarantee low tariffs for the public, announcing a two-time increase of the prices for gas in several months."
"This tendency of irresponsibility characterizes the work of the local authorities, as well", the Deputy Chairman stated. According to Mykola Tomenko, jointly with Volodymyr Hres, Head of the Regional Council, he wanted to demonstrate responsibility for the deputy obligations, presenting a report on the implementation of regional programs to the residents of Cherkasy region.
The Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine admitted that "most Kyiv politicians visiting Cherkasy region as People´s Deputies or executive authority officials act like ‘political migrant workers.´ "However, I treat Cherkasy region as the place where I was born, so I feel obliged to it", he stressed.
That day, M.Tomenko and Volodymyr Hres, Head of the Regional Council, presented the supplement to "Vechirni Cherkasy" newspaper to report on the implementation of their projects, programs and pledges for 2006-2010. "Activity in the following fields was of priority: assistance to, support and development of education in rural areas; public health; gas supply; restoration of industry and creation of extra workplaces; renovation and construction or sports and recreation facilities in the region; support of historical, cultural and tourist objects of the region", the Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated.
He believes that both the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada and the deputies of local councils should follow their example. "Politicians shall report on their activity, especially, on the eve of elections. How can one run for the next term without reporting for the previous one?" he asked.
Mykola Tomenko hopes that his native land will be ruled by the patriots of Cherkasy region, not "those appointed to the region for a short period of time to increase election rates of the party in power." "Metaphorically speaking, in due time, Cherkasy region has lived through both Polish and German authorities, so it will survive Donetsk power as well", the Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine admitted.
On the occasion of the Independence Day and on the eve of the new academic year, M.Tomenko and V.Hres awarded the best physical training teachers and sports organizers from 20 districts and 6 cities of regional subordination, presenting their educational establishments with sports equipment.
