Greetings

of V.LYTVYN, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,

on the Occasion of the Independence Day of Ukraine

Dear fellow citizens!

Please accept my sincere greetings on the national holiday - the Independence Day of Ukraine.

Nineteen years have passed since the August day when the Verkhovna Rada of the USSR declared the independence of Ukraine, fulfilling the cherished dream of our people to have "there´s own truth, own power, own will...", following its long-lasting pursuits towards the free life in their own state in freedom and sovereignty.

Our country has managed a difficult and thorny path of state maturation, comprehensive socio-economic transformations, full-fledged consolidation of liberty and democracy. Due to natural wisdom, tolerance, assiduity and discretion of its people, Ukraine is developing as a powerful sovereign state, well-known and respected all over the world for its powerful potential and capacity to meet the modern challenges.

However, current situation also brings forward our numerous miscalculations and drawbacks on the way towards civilization identification, proving the actual opportunities to attain more achievements.

We all hope for the future under the permanent rule of social peace, concord, stability and safe comfortable life.

Self-sacrificing ardent work, social stability, civil peace and respect are the pledge of these prospects. Efforts should be exerted to consolidate Ukrainian people, perform technological re-equipment of national industry, introduce economic innovations, and enhance the quality of education, public healthcare and culture. Comprehensive reforms of judicial and law-enforcement systems, provision of effective public supervision over their activity are the objectives of top priority, as supported by a new direction of economic reforms with the first stage in the years of 2010-2015.

A hard and responsible work, and thus new achievements, is waiting for all of us. Historical responsibility to our nation, to the memory of glorious ancestors and to the new generations inspires us.

Dear fellow citizens! On the occasion of this memorable day, I wish you all the best and inspiration in your work for the benefit of Ukraine!

Volodymyr LYTVYN
