Mykola Tomenko: Grade Point Average of the Certificate of Secondary Education should be not the Main, but the Extra Factor by Entry to the Higher Education Establishment
The educational project "Kyiv is the Capital of Ukrainian Museums" is in progress in Kyiv. Today, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, project initiator and organizer, met the educationalists of Darnytsia district of Kyiv and presented a special edition of Hlavred magazine to every educational establishment of the district jointly with Oleksandr Bryhynets, Chairman of the Commission on Culture and Tourism under Kyiv City Council, and Oleksii Davydenko, Secretary of the Commission on Education and Culture under Kyiv City Council. The organizers reminded that the purpose of the project was to inform the educational establishments of the capital about the main public and municipal museums of Kyiv and their exhibitions, and a reduced-fare admission for the pupils and the students. For this purpose, a special edition of Hlavred magazine dedicated to the Day of Kyiv presented the museum map of the capital and all the necessary information about the work of museums: location, working hours, exhibitions (50 museums are represented). "Our main objective was to present a guidebook on the museums of the capital to all the educational establishments, higher education institutions and libraries of Kyiv", M.Tomenko stated.
M.Tomenko also presented the educational establishments of the district with the CDs with the records of works by Taras Shevchenko included into the first edition on "Kobzar" of 1840 performed by the prominent artists of different times. The CD was released by the M.Tomenko Fund and the National Radio Broadcasting Company on the occasion of the 170th anniversary of publication of the first edition of "Kobzar".
During the meeting, the Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine answered the questions of the school directors and educationalists. He objected to calculating a grade point average of the certificate of secondary education by entry to the higher education establishment in the total of 200 points. M.Tomenko stated that "the approach of the Ministry of Education and Science is wrong, as plenty of provincial schools corrected the grade points of the certificates, and it is possible to presume that the graduates of the most prestigious secondary schools of Ukraine will have the lowest grade points."
Mykola Tomenko is convinced that the grade point average of the certificate of secondary education shall still be taken into account. "However, it should be not the main, but the extra factor by entry to the higher education establishment", he stated.
The Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also stressed that the experts should review the tests of the external independent testing in view of the objections provoked by the tests in a foreign language.
