Members of the Ukraine–EU Parliamentary Association Committee (PAC), led by the Co-Chair of the Ukrainian delegation Vadym Halaichuk, met with the Head of the Sanctions Policy Division at the European External Action Service (EEAS), Brice de Schietere.
Vadym Halaichuk, Co-Chair of the Ukraine–EU Parliamentary Association Committee from the Ukrainian side, noted that Ukraine is actively cooperating with the EU by providing the necessary information to prepare new sanctions against the russian federation. He expressed concern over russia’s dissemination of narratives among EU citizens claiming that sanctions should be lifted, and thanked the European External Action Service for its proactive work.
First Deputy Co-Chair of the Ukraine–EU Parliamentary Association Committee Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze expressed gratitude for the previous sanctions packages against the aggressor state and conveyed hope that the EEAS would maintain pressure on russia, as only this can produce the intended results. In this context, she highlighted the removal of russian oligarchs Fridman and Usmanov from EU sanctions lists as a flawed decision. Furthermore, Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze emphasized that members of the russian state duma are war criminals and raised the issue of imposing sanctions on the russian nuclear energy sector in light of the situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP).
Brice de Schietere provided an overview of the work on the major preceding sanctions package against russia, as well as the upcoming one, outlining interim measures currently being elaborated by the EEAS and the Service’s ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with the sanctions regime.
