First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniyenko, together with Member of the Parliament of Ukraine Arseniy Pushkarenko, met with Chair of the Portugal–Ukraine Parliamentary Friendship Group Eurico Brilhante Dias.
The parties discussed Ukraine’s urgent defense needs, the development of technological cooperation, the recovery of Ukrainian regions, and further inter-parliamentary interaction.
Special attention was paid to the development of defense technologies. Discussions focused, in particular, on aerial and maritime unmanned systems, as well as ground robotic systems already being deployed for evacuation, logistics, and other battlefield missions.
“russia possesses significant manpower, which is why technological solutions that allow us to counter the enemy more effectively and save the lives of our military personnel are especially vital for Ukraine,” emphasized Oleksandr Korniyenko.
Among other topics discussed were the recovery of Ukrainian regions and infrastructure damaged by russian attacks. The First Vice-Speaker highlighted Portugal’s practical involvement in Ukraine's reconstruction and expressed interest in continuing joint projects in this domain.
Inter-parliamentary cooperation was a key vector of the meeting. The Parliament of Portugal consistently adopts decisions in support of Ukraine, having passed three relevant resolutions this year alone.
“We will continue our dialogue both bilaterally and on international parliamentary platforms. I invited our Portuguese colleagues to join the Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform,” noted Oleksandr Korniyenko.
The First Vice-Speaker expressed gratitude to Portugal for its military, humanitarian, and financial support for Ukraine throughout the full-scale war, as well as for assistance in implementing specific projects. He specifically recognized the support provided to Ukrainians who found refuge in Portugal, home to one of the largest Ukrainian communities in Southern Europe.
