A solemn ceremony of raising the State Flag of Ukraine took place near the building of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The ceremony was attended by the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada, Members of Parliament of the 1st and 9th convocations, as well as the leadership and staff of the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada.
“The significance of our flag can hardly be overestimated. It unites us into a single nation, embodies our freedom, statehood, and the fight for the right to determine our own future. On September 4, 1991, eleven days after the declaration of Independence, the national blue-and-yellow banner was solemnly raised over the building of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for the first time. It flew over the Ukrainian parliament on February 24, 2022, when russia launched its full-scale invasion. It flies today. And it will continue to fly. Because the blue-and-yellow flag is a symbol of the state that Ukrainians fought for, defend today, and will pass down to future generations,” emphasized Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk.
