On May 5, a regular meeting of the Working Group on the preparation of comprehensive legislative proposals regarding the specific features of organising and holding elections during a special period and/or in the post-war period in Ukraine was held.

The meeting was traditionally chaired online by the First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko. The participants discussed the current security situation as well as key challenges of organising and holding post-war elections.

It should be recalled that the Working Group has reached a  consensus on the impossibility of holding elections under martial law.

In addition, the results of the Working Group’s activities for the first quarter were summarised. The Group’s work plan for the second and third quarters of 2026 was also outlined.

Representatives of parliamentary factions and groups, the Office of the President of Ukraine, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the Central Election Commission, law enforcement agencies, civil society organisations, and the expert community took part in the meeting.
