Member of Parliament Yehor Cherniev, Deputy Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, and Head of Ukraine’s Permanent Delegation to the NATO PA, commented on UK Defense Secretary John Healey’s statement at the Rammstein-format meeting about the launch of a 50-day campaign to boost military aid to Ukraine.

He said this is a clear signal referring to the timeline reportedly given by U.S. President Donald Trump to Putin to decide on ending the war. According to Cherniev, Ukraine must be prepared for any scenario by then, and support from partners will continue, as there is a noticeable shift in approaches in favor of Ukraine.

«By the time the 50-day period ends, we must be fully prepared — that’s why military aid to Ukraine will increase,» said MP Yehor Cherniev.

He stressed the importance of a potential meeting between Donald Trump, vladimir putin, and Chinese leader Xi Jinping in China around the same time — a meeting that is already being discussed. «At that meeting, either all sides will step back and the war will end, or the stakes will rise. Therefore, Ukraine needs weapons to be ready for any scenario,» he explained.

In his view, while putin was previously being persuaded, now real pressure on him is about to begin.

«They previously tried to find common ground with him — offering economic deals, joint projects in the Arctic, and so on — but without conceding spheres of influence in the Western world. I’m confident the U.S. will maintain that position, but with new approaches and tougher demands toward putin,» said MP Yehor Cherniev.

«If before he was persuaded, now he will be pressured. The participation of U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in the 29th Rammstein-format meeting also signals that Trump is taking a firm stance. Support for Ukraine will continue,» he emphasized.

According to Cherniev, it is now clear to all that the war cannot be ended without putting pressure on putin — the shift in approach has already occurred, and it benefits Ukraine.
