The ratification by Parliament of the Agreement on the establishment of a Special Tribunal for the crimes committed by russia against Ukraine is a historic event not only for our country but also a profoundly significant moment in the history of international law and humanity.

This was stated by Oleksandr Merezhko, Member of Parliament and Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation.

«A new international legal mechanism is being established — an international judicial body that will hold russian war criminals accountable, those who made decisions regarding the military aggression against Ukraine. This is important because evil must be punished. History shows us that when evil goes unpunished and is instead rewarded, humanity is doomed to repeat the same mistakes. Therefore, international law and humanity have a future only if this international legal mechanism is implemented,» the politician stated.

He added that Ukraine expects the Special Tribunal to be established and operational in the near future.

«russian war criminals will inevitably bear both international legal and criminal responsibility for all their crimes,» emphasized the Member of Parliament.
