The 62nd General Assembly of the Organisation of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) has opened

The 62nd General Assembly of the Organisation of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) has started its work in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Ruslan Stefanchuk, the President of the PABSEC, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, addressed the parliamentarians of the Organisation with an opening speech.  The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi also greeted the participants of the session via video link.

The address of the current BSEC Chairman-in-Office and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Hakan Fidan was presented by the Head of the Turkish PABSEC Delegation Fatih Donmez.

In his welcoming remarks, PABSEC Secretary General Asaf Hajiyev thanked the 27 parliamentarians from the delegations of 12 member states who had come to Kyiv for the 62nd PABSEC Session. He called the PABSEC a powerful organisation and noted that people represent the core value of the Black Sea region.

“We need to improve our cooperation in order to think about the future of our region and the peaceful coexistence of all its citizens,” Asaf Hajiyev said.

During the first plenary session, the participants approved the agenda and the minutes of the previous 61st plenary session of the General Assembly, held in Ankara on 5 May 2023.

In addition, elections were held for the Secretary General of the PABSEC. The current Secretary General Asaf Hajiyev was re-elected to this position by a majority of votes (49 out of 52). The PABSEC General Assembly also increased the number of the PABSEC Deputy Chairmen and elected 4 new deputies.

As a separate issue, the PABSEC parliamentarians heard a presentation by the BSEC Secretary General, Ambassador Lazar Comanescu, on the activities of the Organisation of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation and the BSEC Business Council.
