The Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk met with international students, political scientists and historians of the Mechnikov Odesa National University as part of an educational event organised by the Educational Centre of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

“It was a good opportunity to communicate directly with young people and tell them about the peculiarities of the Verkhovna Rada’s activities during the war and martial law. This is my third trip to Ukrainian universities since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Before that, I attended meetings and lectures at the Ostroh Academy and the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv,” said Olena Kondratiuk.

She also noted that today, due to strict security requirements, it is not possible to invite young people to the Parliament for internships, events, excursions, meetings, events and seminars at the Educational Centre as before. Therefore, according to her, MPs themselves actively visit students in the regions: to communicate, talk about the role, functions, challenges and tasks facing the Parliament in these uncertain times.

“We had a very informative conversation in the format of a small presentation and questions and answers. And there were a lot of them, and they were sharp too! From the need to take into account Ukraine’s national interests in the process of European integration to the fight against corruption or the importance of the military leave,” the Vice Speaker said about the meeting and expressed confidence in the successful and great future of our youth together with Ukraine.

“What I am sure of, and this really gives us hope, is the optimism of Ukrainian youth. 86% of young people associate their future with Ukraine. It is important that young people can influence decisions in the post-war reconstruction of our country and take an active part not only in social but also in political life,” said Olena Kondratiuk at the end of the meeting and wished the university students “fruitful studies, self-realisation, success and fulfilment of dreams in Ukraine”.
