The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine held a conversation in the format of video conference with the Speaker of the Parliament of Finland

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk held a video conference with the Speaker of the Parliament of Finland Jussi Halla-aho.

“From the first hours of 24 February 2022, Finland has demonstrated that it is a reliable ally of Ukraine,” the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine stressed.

Ruslan Stefanchuk congratulated his colleague on his election as Speaker, expressing gratitude to Finland for its comprehensive support of Ukraine and congratulating the country on its accession to NATO.

The parties also discussed Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic future.

“Ukraine counts on Finland’s support for Ukraine’s invitation to join NATO during the Vilnius NATO Summit and for providing us with security guarantees,” said the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

The parties also touched upon Ukraine’s path to the European Union and the importance of starting negotiations on Ukraine’s membership in the EU this year.

In addition, the leaders of the parliaments of Ukraine and Finland discussed the sanctions policy against the russian federation and the creation of all conditions for the use of russian confiscated assets for the reconstruction of Ukraine.

Finally, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine called on the Parliament of Finland to consider the possibility of adopting a decision to recognise the Holodomor of 1932-33 as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people.
