“We have a large scale of challenges regarding de-occupation and reintegration. But we cannot respond to them through established practices – they do not exist,” stressed Oleksandr Korniienko, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, in his welcoming speech at the forum “First Steps After De-occupation”.

He noted that the participants of the event gathered to discuss better planning of the de-occupation process at the local level and the draft strategy for reintegration and restoration of the territories.

The First Vice Speaker stressed the importance of developing legislation with an individual approach to each territory, as the duration of the occupation plays a significant role in these issues.

“The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will continue to support all the steps that can be taken right now for the sake of our lands for the future,” said Oleksandr Korniienko.

In addition, he noted that it is very important to send a signal to people under occupation about Ukraine’s actions and plans to regulate life after the liberation of the territories and the restoration of Ukrainian authorities.

“There is a lot of work ahead that we will do for the sake of victory and the return of all territories to the 1991 borders, where the blue and yellow flags will fly,” the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine concluded.

For reference. The event was held in cooperation with the Office of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine and the Partnership for a Strong Ukraine Foundation.

The main goal is to create a platform for sharing experiences to support better planning of the de-occupation process at the local level.
