“The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has adopted draft law No. 7353 to take care of civilian heroes who suffered from russian aggression. In general, 275 votes were in favour,” said Oleksandr Korniienko, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, following the plenary session.

He noted that this draft law is about a one-time cash payment to people authorised to perform the functions of the state or local self-government, employees of critical infrastructure facilities and journalists who were killed or injured while performing their duties during the period of martial law imposed in accordance with the Law of Ukraine “On the Legal Regime of Martial Law”.

In particular, the following payments are envisaged: UAH 1 million in case of death; UAH 200,000 to UAH 800,000 in case of disability group III to I.

“My colleagues and I came up with this initiative after a visit to Mykolaiv. There was a tragic incident that caused significant losses when the occupiers hit the building of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, when 38 civil servants were killed while performing their duties,” said Oleksandr Korniienko.

At the same time, he stressed that the russian army’s missile attacks on Mykolaiv and Kharkiv regional state administrations, shelling of state institutions, hospitals, local government buildings, railway junctions, other critical infrastructure facilities and atrocities against representatives of the Ukrainian authorities in the occupied territories – “all these crimes caused the deaths and injuries of civilian heroes of this war, who the state is obliged to take care of and thank to.”

“From the first days of the war, our experts and people have been fighting for justice, truth, life and freedom. We remember the cost,” the First Vice Speaker concluded.
