The Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk and the Vice President of the German Bundestag Katrin Goring-Eckardt visited Borodianka town in Kyiv region, which was liberated from russian occupation in early April 2022.
The Vice-President of the Bundestag saw with her own eyes the consequences of the russian occupation, including the terrible destruction of apartment buildings left behind by russian war criminals and terrorists.
“I would like to thank Germany and the Bundestag for their proactive position in military, economic and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. We are also personally grateful to Ms. Katrin, thanks to whose efforts in the Bundestag we will soon receive German Leopard 2 tanks to protect and liberate even more Ukrainian cities and towns,” said Olena Kondratiuk.
According to the Deputy Chairperson of the Parliament, who is visiting Borodianka not for the first time, life is gradually returning to the town and local residents who were forced to seek refuge in other regions of Ukraine and abroad.
“Borodianka is a telling example of ordinary Ukrainians doing extraordinary things. People in Borodianka are working and restoring their town thanks to the support of charitable foundations and our international partners,” emphasized Olena Kondratiuk.
According to her, in addition to comprehensive humanitarian aid, Ukraine needs modern air defense systems the most. “While we are in Borodianka with Mrs. Vice President of the Bundestag, our military are undergoing training in Germany on Patriot air defense systems, and this is extremely important and symbolic,” noted the Vice Speaker.
“putin should know that this country will be rebuilt and we will defend it, because it belongs to the European family. We will not abandon Ukraine,” emphasized Katrin Goring-Eckardt.
She also noted that it is very important that Ukrainian children can feel safe and have the opportunity to attend schools and kindergartens normally.
The Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada Olena Kondratiuk and the Vice President of the Bundestag Katrin Goring-Eckardt visited the local company Eco Basket, which continues to operate and provide jobs even in such difficult times.
The company produces and exports eco-friendly food packaging made of beech veneer from locally sourced raw materials to more than 10 countries.
“We very much hope that such visits as this one and our active inter-parliamentary diplomacy will lead to the adoption of resolutions on justice for Ukraine at the level of all democratic parliaments in Europe and the world. This includes recognizing russia as a terrorist state, establishing an international special tribunal, and paying reparations to Ukraine,” summarized Olena Kondratiuk.
