The Secretary General of the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Vyacheslav Shtuchnyi met with colleagues from the Secretariat and structural units of the European Parliament

The Secretary General of the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Vyacheslav Shtuchnyi met with colleagues from the European Parliament and with the Director of Democracy Support Armelle Douaud within the framework of the conference “Supporting parliamentary democracy around the world: building democratic resilience”, which is currently taking place in the European Parliament in Brussels.


In particular, the parties discussed cooperation of the Secretariat of the Parliament of Ukraine with the structural units of the European Parliament and between research services during the meeting.


“The Research Service of the Ukrainian Parliament, which began its work in August 2022, was established to implement measures to increase the institutional capacity of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, as provided for by the Recommendations of the European Parliament Mission. It provides scientific, information and analytical support for the work of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, MPs and parliamentary groups and factions. Since now the priority in the work is the adaptation of Ukrainian legislation to the European one, expert reinforcement from the European Parliament is extremely necessary. We do not have years to adjust our legislation to the EU requirements. Our task is to do it qualitatively and in a short time,” stressed Vyacheslav Shtuchnyi.


He also said that following the meeting, an agreement was reached to establish a working group, which will include representatives of both legislative bodies. The goal is to increase the institutional capacity of the Ukrainian Parliament.


The parties agreed to organize and conduct trainings based on of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the European Parliament. The trainings will be attended by the staff of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Research Service, MPs and their assistants who are directly involved in the preparation of European integration bills.


“EU legislation contains many directives and regulations. We must ensure preparation for the synchronization of our norms with the EU ones. And it is a joint work of the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, MPs and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine,” added the Secretary General of the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
