Andriy Klochko, Chairman of the Committee, is convinced that today Ukraine pays the highest price for the right to be a free, European state and now protects not only itself but also the future security of Europe
Today, the Ukrainian people, who are desperately fighting and shedding blood for their independence and European values, have certainly earned the right to hear a clear message about the approval of the application for EU membership.
In this context, it is important to take into consideration the historical precedent of East Germany, which in a short time after the fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989, re-united with West Germany and became a member of the European Union.
The accelerated integration of East Germany took place through a special procedure approved on April 28, 1990.
Apparently, the Ukrainians have proven that they have won the right to such a special procedure, so the EU should show political will and respectively make a decision. At this difficult time, such a move would boost morale of the Ukrainian people, who are beginning to be disappointed in the EU's readiness to uphold the values ??it has declared, including refusing to close the skies over Ukraine to protect innocent civilians killed by Russian invaders' missiles.
