The quality of textbooks and manuals for the New Ukrainian School was discussed during the hearings in the Committee on Education, Science and Innovation.
Chairperson of the Committee Serhiy Babak noted that the quality of textbooks is becoming more frequent: there are complaints about the content of textbooks and there are comments on the presentation of the material.
He said that several bills had been submitted to address these issues, but the Committee rejected them. Instead, the draft Law on Amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Education” was submitted to improve the scientific and methodological support of education and the quality of educational literature №5465, which the Committee recommends to adopt as a basis.
During the Committee hearings, MPs, educators, and specialists in the field of book publishing raised the issues of textbook examination, training of experts, selection of textbooks by teachers, publication of textbooks for children with special educational needs, staffing of libraries and creation of modern library hubs.
"We must do everything to ensure that our children have not only quality textbooks, but also to update school libraries, to create an educational space in which pupils would like to read," said Babak.
The Chairperson of the Committee invited the participants to submit their proposals to the recommendations of the committee hearings, which will later be considered approved at the meeting of the Committee.
