The Verkhovna Rada is ready to react to aggravation of the situation in Donbas and will to do everything in its power to prevent further escalation. This was stated by Chairperson of the Ukrainian Parliament Dmytro Razumkov.
He stressed that in times of serious challenges facing Ukraine in different periods, the Verkhovna Rada has always played one of the key roles in defending the interests of the state and society.
Answering questions about the intensification of the enemy in eastern Ukraine and the role of the Verkhovna Rada in the event of further aggravation of the situation, Dmytro Razumkov said: "If such a situation arises, the Verkhovna Rada will immediately perform its functions. But today we are doing everything to prevent this."
"We are ready to respond to any unusual case or challenge. We have agreed plans for such situations and we understand how this will happen, so the Verkhovna Rada is guaranteed to perform its functions. Just like any other state body, it must know and understand what it will do," he said.
According to the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, there are currently no grounds for imposing martial law in Ukraine.
He also noted that compared to 2014, Ukraine is much better prepared today to repel the enemy.
At the same time, he stressed that the most important thing for the state is the lives of its citizens. "We must do everything in our power to preserve it," said Dmytro Razumkov.
The Speaker also stressed that the support of international partners - the United States, European countries and NATO - is important for Ukraine.
"The main weapon of people who work in politics is not a machine gun or a rifle at home, but other means given to us by the state power. And very often they are even more effective than weapons," he said.
