Committee on Social Policy and Protection of Veterans' Rights Releases OSCE Report on Democratic Institutions and Human Rights on Accessibility of the Verkhovna Rada for Persons with Disabilities.
The event was organized by the Sub-committee on Social Protection and Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities and Regulation of Activities of Their Enterprises and Public Associations of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on Social Policy and Protection of Veterans’ Rights, the Bureau of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the All-Ukrainian Public Association "National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine" and the Coalition for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities due to Intellectual Disabilities.
The Report presents the results of a study conducted in October-November 2020, which aimed to study the experience of interaction of persons with disabilities with the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and MPs. The study was supported by the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe in co-operation with the National Assembly of People with Disabilities of Ukraine. During the study were interviewed 137 people with disabilities who had experience related to the activities of parliament, namely: visiting the premises of the Verkhovna Rada, its committees or public reception, participating in meetings, correspondence or appeals, browsing the site, etc.
The purpose of the survey was to find out the accessibility, openness and transparency of the parliament's activities with regard to people with disabilities. MPs also took part in the poll. The results of this study provided recommendations for improving the activities of the Parliament in order to increase the involvement of persons with disabilities in the activities of the Verkhovna Rada.
