The Committee held the first meeting of the working group to develop the draft law on the interception of telecommunications.
Deputy Chairperson of the Committee Oleksandr Fedienko reminded that the relevant bill was developed in 2004 No. 4042-1, but was not considered by the Verkhovna Rada. Therefore, there is a need to finalize the old draft law taking into account today's realities. According to him, it is important to develop a new law that will allow law enforcement agencies to obtain modern and effective technology for intercepting information from telecommunications networks in a timely manner, and citizens - to compliance with constitutional rights and freedoms in the use of telecommunications.
Oleksandr Fedienko stressed that the interception of telecommunications under the clearly defined special law is necessary for the successful fight and prevention of crime. At the same time, the law should provide reliable guarantees against abuse and unauthorized interception of telecommunications.
The meeting was attended by MPs, representatives of the telecommunications industry, human rights organizations and public authorities.
