At its meeting, the Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy considered the draft Resolution "On the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the first manned space flight" (No. 5210). According to the authors of the bill, at the sources of this significant event was a great Ukrainian - the chief designer of the first rocket and space systems - Academician Serhii Korolyov.

For many years, when the epoch-making discoveries and achievements of astronautics took place, the name of the chief designer remained secret. Only from the obituary did the world community learn for the first time that the homeland of the founder of practical cosmonautics, Academician Serhii Korolyov, is Ukraine, in particular the city of Zhytomyr.

The draft Resolution recommends celebrating the 60th anniversary of the first manned space flight at the state level in April 2021. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine recommends including the renovation of the Serhii Korolyov National Museum of Cosmonautics of the Zhytomyr Regional Council in the Large Construction Program.

"There is little time left until April 12, and our country, together with international partners with whom we participate in various space programs - the United States, NASA, the European Space Agency - should celebrate this common victory of humanity, which took place exclusively thanks to outstanding Ukrainians," stressed the Chairperson of the Committee. Following the discussion, the Committee decided to recommend the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to adopt this Resolution.
