The Committee on Social Policy and Protection of Veterans' Rights discussed social policy issues to ensure the rights of Defenders of Ukraine and members of their families, members of the families of deceased Defenders of Ukraine

Chairperson of the Sub-committee on Social Protection of Veterans' Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on Social Policy and Protection of Veterans’ Rights Anatolii Ostapenko noted that in the context of socio-economic and political changes, the protracted armed conflict in eastern Ukraine, the problems of social protection require public authorities to respond appropriately. The issue of social support and provision of Defenders of Ukraine and members of their families, volunteers, participants of the Revolution of Dignity becomes especially relevant, due to rapid changes in public relations, as well as in the legislative field governing the social protection of the population, including servicepersons, the reform of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the need to bring their functioning closer to European and world standards.
The main tasks of the state policy in these conditions, Anatolii Ostapenko noted, are: ensuring proper rights and guarantees of state support for the Defenders of Ukraine and members of their families, members of the families of the fallen Defenders of Ukraine. Anatolii Ostapenko called on the participants of the meeting to cooperate in order to develop a separate system of ensuring the coordination of actions of state authorities and local governments in the field of social and legal protection of Defenders of Ukraine and members of their families, members of the families of the fallen Defenders of Ukraine, the creation in Ukraine of an effective mechanism for the implementation and provision of appropriate state guarantees.
