The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine hosted the meeting of co-chairs of the “Equal Opportunities” Caucus: Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Olena Kondratiuk and MPs: Maryna Bardina, Oleksii Zhmerenetskyi and Mariia Ionova - with Olha Stefanishyna - Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine.
The participants of the meeting discussed the issues of strengthening cooperation at the level of legislative and executive branches of government to overcome gender inequality and discrimination. They also discussed the preparation of a new version of the Labor Code taking into account the gender component and the adoption of a Strategy for Gender Equality in Education and Combating Discriminatory Educational Content in Education.
“Today, it is important to join forces to strengthen national gender mechanisms in the activities of the executive and local authorities through the adoption of appropriate strategies and action plans,” stressed, in particular, Olena Kondratiuk.
The participants of the meeting also noted the need to create effective mechanisms to combat and prevent domestic and gender-based violence at the legislative level.
For reference: In 2020, Ukraine joined the Equal Pay International Coalition and the Coalition for Action to Promote Gender Equality within the United Nations.
