The Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management held committee hearings on the topic: “Ukraine's participation in the European Green Course.” Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna noted that this is a cross-sectoral issue and concerns not only the environment, but also many other areas, including infrastructure, energy and more. She stressed that the adoption of the Law on Water Transport, as well as the work on the draft law on waste management - is a significant contribution of Ukraine to issues related to climate change and effective waste management. Chairperson of the Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management Oleh Bondarenko informed about the preparation of the bills on the introduction of integrated permits, protection of flora and fauna, the territory of the Emerald Network. “There is also a proposal to create a new government body that will take care of the nature reserve fund,” he added.
Oleh Bondarenko stressed that the Committee supports and emphasizes Ukraine's faster accession to the European Green Course.
Chairperson of the Committee on European Integration Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze noted that this is also an important part of diplomatic work. She stressed the importance of identifying a parliamentary platform that would be a crossroads for developing initiatives and ongoing dialogue.
Head of the Energy, Transport and Environment Section of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Chloe Alio said that the European Commission has allocated 10 million euros to Ukraine for the creation of a climate center, energy efficient transport and more.
The representative of the European Business Association Olha Boyko spoke about the business vision. She noted the importance of adopting the Law on State Support of Investment Projects with Significant Investments. Among the main proposals: the reform of the environmental tax and the involvement of international financial institutions.
The participants of the hearings also stressed the importance of modernization of enterprises and the introduction of the necessary incentives for this, the need for training, raising the level of knowledge and awareness of society, involving the media in education, etc. The Committee on Ecology and Nature Management should become one of the platforms where the Government will be able to demonstrate its progress in Ukraine's accession to the European Green Course.
