The participants of the meeting discussed the draft Law No. 3427 on amendments to the Law of Ukraine “On Advertising” on combating gender discrimination.

During the meeting, the author of the bill, MP Maryna Bardina, noted that work on the document lasted six months.

The bill proposes:

- define the concepts of ‘discriminatory advertising’ and ‘sexually discriminatory advertising’;

- prohibit the use of discriminatory allegations and images in advertising;

- increase the size of fines for violations in advertising, especially in case of repeated violations and failure to provide or late provision of information to the authorities;

- introduce a public rebuttal of discriminatory advertising.

The adoption of this law is expected to help combat gender discrimination in advertising and the formation of a gender-sensitive information space, a culture of tolerance, and intolerance of all forms of violence among the general population; strengthen the protection of the rights of advertising consumers, as well as contribute to the establishment of the legal order in the area of advertising.

During the meeting, its participants heard members of the Public Council of the Committee, representatives of the advertising industry and lawyers who, in particular, within the Sub-committee are working on a big sectoral law.

The head of the Sub-committee on Information Policy Yevheniia Kravchuk proposed to finalize the bill before the second reading.
