Following an informal online sitting of the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Association Committee Bureau (PAC Bureau) held on June 24, the Co-Chairs Vadym Halaichuk (VRU) and Witold Waszczykowski (EP) have released a joint communique.

  • The document in outline

The communique states that the parties do consider further close inter-parliamentary contacts to be of great concern for both countries, on a par with exchanging requisite information during the forthcoming Ukraine-EU and Eastern Partnership (EaP) summits.

In the coming months, the Association Agreement (AA), together with its trade-related provisions, is to be duly reassessed and reinvigorated as well as Ukraine’s further sectoral integration into the EU, which would help the economy recover from the pandemic crisis.

A significant progress is anticipated towards the signing of the European Common Aviation Area agreement between Ukraine and the EU, and triggering of formal talks over the Agreement on Conformity Assessment and Acceptance of Industrial Products (ACAA).

Even closer collaboration was declared to be maintained through topical online meetings and regular exchanges of views in such important spheres like justice, rule of law, electoral law, anti-graft fight and so forth. This is seen to be rather imperative for the AA implementation and further development of relations between Ukraine and the EU, which are based on common values.

In addition, it was agreed to concentrate the parties’ attention on the long-term strategic goals and prospects of relations between Ukraine and the EU, and achieving consensus over EU-Ukraine mutual ambitious goals.
