Today, June 18, the Verkhovna Rada has hosted a meeting of the Ukraine-Indonesia parliamentary friendship group with representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia to Ukraine headed by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Indonesia to Ukraine Yuddy Chrisnandi.
According to Artem Kunaiev, the leader of the Verkhovna Rada group for inter-parliamentary relations with the Republic of Indonesia, the newly formed friendship group was looking forward to this meeting. He thanked the Ambassador and the Embassy for the high-level representation of the team. "This does show a sincere desire to promote inter-parliamentary cooperation between Ukraine and Indonesia," the group leader stressed, and expressed his confidence that "such a cooperation will make a significant contribution to the development of relations between our countries in the future".
The leader of the group also thanked Indonesia for its international position that supports Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, in particular in UN General Assembly votes on the situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. "I do hope that this position will be maintained at its 75th session in 2020," Artem Kunaiev stated.
The politician also expressed his hopes that their joint work and concerted efforts would have a valuable impact on economic, political and other types of cooperation between the two countries.
Artem Kunaiev then introduced members of the Verkhovna Rada friendship group. During the speeches, Ukrainian MPs expressed their sincere hope for the improvement of economic cooperation between the two countries.
In his turn, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Indonesia to Ukraine thanked for the organization of the meeting and expressed hope for further fruitful collaboration.
According to him, cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries is actively developing. As he then clarified, a similar 6-man friendship group was formed in the Indonesian parliament a week ago. Over the past three years, more than 200 Indonesian parliamentarians have visited Ukraine in 12 delegations for good measure.
The Embassy officials then briefed Ukrainian MPs on the political system, peculiarities of the Indonesian socio-cultural sphere, its history, as well as the cooperation between the two countries. According to the Embassy, Indonesia is interested in developing cooperation with Ukraine in the IT, trade, sports, culture, tourism and investment spheres.
Yuddy Chrisnandi expressed his fervent hope that relations between Ukraine and Indonesia would develop rapidly thanks to the inter-parliamentary relations groups.
Participants of the meeting expressed their hope for a rapid improvement in the situation with coronavirus and the resumption of mutual visits to actualize the potential that exists between the two countries.
