VRada holds a special 'antiviral' meeting in the run-up to extraordinary sitting slated for March 30

The parliament held on March 26 a special meeting called to counteract the spread of the novel coronavirus. The meeting was held in Parliament premises with the participation of the Verkhovna Rada’s leadership, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, heads of all parliamentary factions, chairpersons of VRU line committees and government representatives, including the Finance Minister Ihor Umanskyi and the Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine Ihor Petrashko.

The meeting was chaired by Dmytro Razumkov, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

During the meeting, there were discussed the issues of combating the coronavirus epidemic in Ukraine, pressing tasks for authorities to protect the elderly and medical professionals, supporting the economy, etc.

All participants of the meeting have with one accord acknowledged the need to reinforce the Anti-coronavirus Staff, led by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, with representatives of parliament and relevant experts.

“I am grateful to all of my colleagues that they have managed to put politics aside – instead, there is a clear understanding of the parliament’s responsibility for the challenges facing Ukraine and the world in tote. We are starting to work through thorough preparations to the coming extraordinary meeting,” Dmytro Razumkov said in his interview to the “Rada” TV channel.

He then added that underway there is the work over legislative acts aimed to create additional conditions to counteract the coronavirus and to elaborate economic stimuli for the development of the country and a rapid recovery after the COVID-19 crisis ends.
