The NATO International Staff/Secretariat has just concluded its inception visit to Ukraine. Its representatives, together with the staff of the VRU Secretariat, discussed the issues of logistics, information support and technical facilities, protocol questions, etc.
“The NATO Parliamentary Assembly is an extremely important event not only for the Verkhovna Rada, but also for Ukraine, all in all. A series of events are planned for May 22-25. We are currently resolving all organizational issues for this summit level event,” the Chief of the Verkhovna Rada Secretariat Viacheslav Shtuchnyi elucidated.
During the final meeting, the parties discussed the state of preparation for the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Kyiv, May 22-25, 2020.
Worthy of note
This is for the first time that the NATO Parliamentary Assembly’s session is held in Ukraine. As associate member, Ukraine has been represented at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly by the Verkhovna Rada permanent delegation since May 1992. Every year Ukrainian delegates participate in NATO PA sessions that are held in springs and autumns as usual.
On April 25, 2019, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the resolution on holding the Spring Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which provides for the establishment of an organizing committee in charge of making preparations and holding the session.
