VRU loc governance committee meets delegates of CoE’s local and regional authorities congress

The committeemen met with delegates of the Council of Europe’s Congress of Local and Regional Authorities.

During the meeting it was noted that the international community is satisfied with the progress Ukraine made in implementing the power decentralization reform. It was also emphasized that reforming the local self-government system in accordance with the requirements of the European Charter of Local Self-Government is an important factor in achieving the Copenhagen Criteria and Ukraine’s membership of in the European Union.

In his turn, the committee chairman expressed his gratitude to the Secretary General of the Congress for the support of Ukraine in implementing reforms, and also informed about the state of play in reviewing the bills concerning the implementation of local self-government reform and electoral legislation.
