IFA ‘Economy.NOW’, World Bank meet to debate on pressing economic issues

A current economic agenda was discussed by MPs-members of the Verkhovna Rada inter-factional association “Economy.NOW” and representatives of the World Bank.

The lawmakers and WB pundits also talked over the state of play in the process of separating the gas transmission system operator from NAK “Naftogaz”, conducting the land reform, as well as the infrastructure and banking sector issues.

MPs also raised the issue of Ukraine’s land market. The World Bank have assured that the bankers do support launching the market and the need to give people a choice on how to manage their own land. The international partners emphasized that it is the government and the Verkhovna Rada who play a key role in the decision-making on the design and ways of implementing the land reform.

Additionally, the interlocutors paid close attention to regulating the work of foreigners who have long invested in the development of Ukraine’s agriculture.  The experts suggested to give due heed to other countries experience that provides for introducing a transition period, permitting of setting up joint ventures with Ukrainian owners, etc.
