“The Ukrainian State should build effective mechanisms to protect our citizens from Russian provocations when traveling abroad,” -- Olena Kondratiuk

The vice speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk is convinced that the incident with the detention of a Ukrainian citizen, an ATO/JFO veteran Ihor Mazur in Poland should urge the Ukrainian authorities to take active steps towards preventing similar provocations from the part of Russia in the future.

O. Kondratiuk noted that thanks to the concerted actions of the public, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Poland, the Polish side transferred the detained Ihor Mazur to our consular establishment.

As such cases may occur in the future with other volunteers and defenders of Ukraine when traveling abroad, the state should jointly develop effective mechanisms to protect Ukrainian citizens from the Russian Federation’s provocations, the vice speaker emphasized.

As a co-chair of the Parliamentary Assembly of Ukraine and the Republic of Poland, Olena Kondratiuk expressed her gratitude to the Polish side for "its clear position, support, an impartial and prompt consideration of the Ihor Mazur case". This was also marked in her official letters sent the day before to the Deputy Marshals of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland Ryszard Terletsky and Malgorzata Gosiewska.
