The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine discussed with the Head of the NATO Representation to Ukraine further support and deepening cooperation
The Verkhovna Rada Chairman Dmytro Razumkov met with the Head of the NATO Representation to Ukraine Alexander Vinnikov to talk over the state of play in the ongoing and future cooperation. Dmytro Razumkov assured NATO representatives of the parliament's preparedness to deepen relations with the Alliance.
“First of all, I would like to thank the North Atlantic Alliance for its consistent position concerning the fight for Ukraine's sovereignty and independence, for its political and humanitarian support. All branches of our government are ready to support reforms and maintain Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic development vector,” he observed with profound gratification.
For his part, Alexander Vinnikov stressed that NATO does not recognize and will not recognize the illegal annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, and it also continues to narrowly monitor the situation in the east of Ukraine and insists upon full implementation of the Minsk agreements by all parties.
He also noted that the main goal of the NATO-Ukraine cooperation is today to create cleared conditions for the implementation of Euro-Atlantic standards and principles aiming to ensure a decent level of national security.
The parties paid special attention to the need for developing or amending existing laws with the view of ensuring the full enforcement of the National Security Law of Ukraine.
The participants also debated joint measures pointed at professional development of Ukrainian parliamentarians and having a closer look at NATO principles.
In particular, the Head of the NATO Representation to Ukraine expressed his hope for the support of the NATO-Ukraine Professional Development programme, which focuses on teaching civil servants leadership, strategic planning and project management for further wise management of reforms.
The speaker, in his turn, assured NATO representatives of his full readiness to support such initiatives.
