Committee on Ukraine’s Integration into EU
The committee approved the list of European integration bills drafted for inclusion in the agenda of the second session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on the ninth convocation.
On September 2, the сommittee considered a set of draft laws supposed to amend the Constitution of Ukraine - registration Nos. 1013, 1014, 1015, 1016, 1017, 1027, 1028. These laws were initiated by the President of Ukraine V. Zelenskyi. The сommittee recognized that provisions of these laws are governed by the national legislation of the Member States of the European Union.
As long as provisions of the laws do relate to democratic principles, the rule of law, and the functioning of democratic institutions in the country, the committee considers it appropriate to apply to the Venice Commission for its opinion upon the conformity of the said laws with European standards and values.
The committeemen also invited to pool their efforts with the Committee on Legal Policy to have joint hearings on the constitution amendment bills.
During the meeting, members of the committee also approved the list of European integration bills that are proposed for the agenda of the second session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the ninth convocation.
