Committee on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement
The committee took stock of the results of its work during the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the eighth convocation.
During the term, the committee has received 885 draft bills, 88 of which were adopted by the Verkhovna Rada as law. 255 draft bills, prepared by the committee were not considered by the Verkhovna Rada.
The bills submitted to the committee were related to the reform of the law enforcement agencies and the creation of the National Police of Ukraine, the reform of Ukraine’s prosecution agencies and the penitentiary system, the establishment of the State Bureau of Investigations of Ukraine as well as the probation agency, the improvement of criminal and criminal procedure legislation.
Main efforts of the committee were pointed towards legislative support to the law enforcement reform. Among solid achievements of the committee, there were legislative consolidation of the institute of misdemeanor offenses and relevant changes aimed at simplifying the procedure of investigation of minor offenses/crimes.
The committee has ranked among leaders to treat draft acts of the Verkhovna Rada, laws adopted and bills registered.
In accordance with the Article 106 of the Rada’s regulations, the committee shall ‘hand down’ sixteen bills to the newly elected Verkhovna Rada of the ninth convocation. These bills are subject to registration by the Verkhovna Rada of new convocation.
