Mariia Ionova, a deputy head of the Committee on European Integration, held a meeting with representatives of a German delegation

The delegation consisted of Christian Calderone, Deputy of the Niedersachsen’s Landtag (Lower Saxony); Christian W. Tangermann, Burgomaster  of the city of Lilienthal; G.Bammel, Chief of the economy minister office  (Lower Saxony); Tilman Kuban, Head of the CDU (Christian Democratic Union of Germany) youth organization in Lower Saxony; Gabriele Baumann, Head of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Office in Ukraine.

The main focus of the discussion was made on issues related to the prospects of Ukraine’s European integration, the results of the implementation of the Association Agreement, security challenges and deepening of direct regional cooperation between Ukraine and Germany.

M.Ionova spread with the German colleagues the word of the current status of coordinating adaptation of national legislation to the EU law at the parliamentary and governmental levels. In particular, the German side was thanked for helping in strengthening the institutional capacity of the state authorities responsible for the implementation of the Association Agreement.

The German delegates also showed interest in successful examples of real decentralization, in the process of which territorial communities are to receive sufficient funding and able to organize their lives on their own.

Another key topic of the discussion was strengthening the European community's counteraction to the Russian aggression as “Putin's regime does only understand the "language of power"”. Therefore, the mechanism of personal sanctions against the Kremlin’s political elite is seen to be a necessary and effective tool for counteracting current threats.

At the end of the meeting, Mariia Ionova invited the German colleagues to visit the eastern regions of Ukraine for a deeper understanding of the current situation.
