The Committee on Environmental Policy, Use of Natural Resources and Elimination of Consequences of Chornobyl Disaster recommends that the Parliament adopts as a Basis the Bill on Amendments to the Water Code of Ukraine

The Bill (Reg. No.2634) introduces amendments to the Water Code of Ukraine appertaining to the right of ownership and lease of water resources, dues for special water consumption, ecostandards of water quality of water objects of general and special use, establishment of coastal protection strips, etc.  

 

Pursuant to the Bill, water objects and land of water fund can stay in public, municipal and private ownership. Citizens and legal entities can obtain ownership of closed basins with an area up to 3 ha located within the limits of privatized land plots, provided the local self-government bodies issue a relevant permit.  

 

The Committee members believe that implementation of the Bill will provide comprehensive approach to the use of water resources, their protection and renewal.
