The committee recommends the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to take on the first and second readings the draft bill No.7278 enabling investigative agencies of the public procurator's office to prolong the term of pre-trial investigation for certain criminal proceedings.
The bill provides for elongating a pre-trial investigation’s duration for criminal proceedings subject to trial by interrogators of the State Bureau of Investigation until the bureau starts to function but no later than January 1, 2019.
By the law,
since November the 20th, 2017 (the End date) the investigative agencies
of the public procurator's office will thus be entitled to only keep on pre-trial
investigating over the criminal proceedings opened before the End date, and
shall be disentitled to undertake so as to criminal violations committed after
the End date. The latter cases are subject to the jurisdiction of the State
Bureau of Investigation, which is yet to be on.
The relevant amendments are to be put in the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
