The Committee on Social Policy and Labour recommends that the Parliament adopts as a Basis the Bill on Amendments and Supplements to certain Laws of Ukraine (re Establishment of a Minimum Hourly Wage)

27 February 2008, 17:56

The Bill (Reg. No.1156-1) introduces amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On Remuneration of Labour" and the Code of Laws on Labour of Ukraine in order to create legal prerequisites for introduction of a minimum hourly wage.

It is necessary to adopt the Bill, as the basic State social labour standard minimum hourly wage that is to be paid by all the employers regardless of the form of ownership and entrepreneurship, fails to comply with the international standards, since it does not equal the rate of a living wage.

The Committee members endorsed the Bill. The People´s Deputies believe that establishment of a minimum hourly wage will prevent possible violations of the employees´ rights for proper labour remuneration. Moreover, it will enhance efficiency of labour.
